There are two main types of skin lines often known as wrinkles or rhytids. Dynamic lines (caused by contraction of the underlying muscle) and static lines. Both begin as fine lines to start with but can become deeper if untreated. Anti wrinkle injections are used to treat dynamic lines by relaxing the muscles that cause the lines. The most commonly treated areas are the ‘frown lines’ between the eyebrows and ‘crows feet’ or ‘laughter lines’ beside the eyes.

Pain relief
Painkillers will be prescribed for you on discharge form the Nuffield. Please contact the hospital if you feel you need more painkillers as you may need a review by one of our nursing staff.
Dressings
Most of the dressings we use are showerproof. Just pat them dry afterwards with a clean towel or leave to air dry. Sometimes we use ointment instead of a dressing, particularly near the hairline. In this case simply wash your wound daily with soap and water (normal warm tap water or in the shower) and reapply the ointment 2-3 times per day. Don’t forget to cover your pillow with a towel to keep your bed linen clean.
Wound care and stitches (sutures)
We use sutures that dissolve and those that need removing depending on your procedure. Mr Dunkin and his team will tell you which you have and make arrangements for you to come back to the Nuffield Dressing Clinic to have these removed by the nurses, if necessary. As a guide:

How will I know if something is wrong?
Signs that suggest wound healing problems include increasing swelling and redness around the wound or discharge. If you are concerned then don’t hesitate to telephone the Nuffield and arrange to come and see the nursing staff.
Follow up appointments
The team at the Nuffield will provide all your post-operative care. If you live a long way form the hospital and it is easier for you to see your GP Practice Nurse then this can be arranged after some procedures. Mr Dunkin will see you regularly in the Dressing Clinic and in Out-patients.

How much does it cost
Consultation fees – what do I get for my money?
A full cosmetic consultation with a Perfecta Consultant Plastic Surgeon costs just £120.
This lasts 30 minutes and includes:
- Perfecta Cosmetic Surgery will conduct a full assessment – focusing on the problem that concerns you and including a full medical, surgical and cosmetic history and examination, with a nurse chaperone present. With your permission, photographs may be taken for your medical records.
- We will discuss the treatment options available to you and the likely outcome of each. This may incluse both non-surgical and surgical options.
- There will be a detailed discussion of the treatment you choose together with the details of the procedure and, if applicable, the type of anaesthesia (asleep or awake surgery), same-day discharge or overnight stay, the length of time off work and away from normal activities and the likely outcome you can expect from your surgery.

Your consultation will also include a comprehensive discussion of the potential risks of treatment to help you decide if this treatment is right for you. We often see our patients two or three times before treatment and there is no extra charge for these appointments. Likewise after surgery there are no extra fees for follow-up consultation with your Consultant
Plastic Surgeon Mr Dunkin or his team. (This is all part of the package of care because we want to ensure that you to do well after your treatment and are happy with the outcome).

and cosmetic surgery. These give you the opportunity to meet us for five minutes or so and also to have a look at

How much will the treatment cost?
Following your consultation we can give you a guaranteed price tailored to your treatment that includes all hospital costs, consultants fee, anaesthetists fee and follow-up care. This price is normally guaranteed for 60 days. Once you have made your decision to go ahead, you will be contacted by the hospital directly and this allows Mr Dunkin and his team to concentrate on providing you with the best possible clinical care.
What do I get for my money?
- First, you choose a date with your surgeon that suits you.
- Second we will provide a single package price that covers all your costs in hospital and afterwards.
- You will not receive any unexpected bills once you get home.
This package price includes:
- Accommodation in a single private room with spotlessly clean facilities, where friends and family can visit all day.
- All meals and refreshments.
- All operation costs, including special orders such as breast implants.
- Care from your Consultant Plastic Surgeon – the same Consultant Plastic Surgeon who assessed and advised you before surgery will do your operation and look after you afterwards.
- If you need a general anaesthetic (asleep) this will be provided by your Consultant Anaesthetist who is a Consultant Anaesthetists in the NHS and is fully accredited and on the Specialist Register for Anaesthesia (and Intensive Care).
- Specialist nursing care whilst you are in hospital.
- All out-patient care once you go home.
What happens if I have problems after treatment?
The price you pay includes all the cost of your care until you have healed. If you have a problem that requires return to the operating theatre, for example to treat a haematoma (collection of blood) or a wound infection, then this is also included. We want you to get the best possible result after treatment. If we are not happy with any part of the result and we think that we can improve it, then there is no extra charge. For example, it is quite common to get a lump at the end of a tummy tuck scar (‘dog ear’). If these are prominent then they can be corrected under local anaesthetic (awake) at no extra cost.
Post-treatment care
You will be seen as many times as necessary until you are healed and happy with the outcome. For most patients this means one or two dressing clinic appointments and one or two out-patient visits. We are happy to see you as often as you wish. There is no extra fee for follow-up care.
